Young girls learn to code, program drones in new summer class

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Marymount High School is offering a summer coding class for girls ages 15-18 that teaches them unique skills including how to create cellphone applications, design websites and produce films.

On Tuesday, students at the all-girls high school in the Holmby Hills/Bel Air area were given a preview of the class and were taught how to code the flight path of a drone. The girls then had the chance to see their work take flight.

"This skill is becoming the new literacy and to leave girls out of that seems absolutely ridiculous," said Victoria Friedman, who taught the preview class.

There's still time to enroll in the weeklong course. Those interested can visit Marymount High School's website to sign up.
