"Star Wars" fans were preparing for the official release of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" by watching all of the films in the series at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood.

HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- "Star Wars" fans were preparing for the opening of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" by watching all of the films in the series at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood.

Hundreds of people gathered from Wednesday night until Thursday for the marathon of all six movies that will end with a special screening of the new and highly-anticipated film at 7 p.m.

Unique to the El Capitan Theatre, displays of the real costumes and props from the film were available for all fans to enjoy as excitement was building before the big opening.

Several other theaters across Southern California and across the country offered the same marathon overnight.

As of Thursday morning, advanced ticket sales already topped $100 million in the U.S. and Canada. By the end of the weekend, industry analysts predict the number can easily double.
