Harbor Gateway fire: Tanker erupts in flames at industrial yard
A tanker fire erupted at an industrial yard in Harbor Gateway, sending a massive plume of thick black smoke high into the air above the South Bay.

TORRANCE, Calif. (KABC) -- A tanker fire erupted Thursday morning at an industrial yard in Harbor Gateway, sending a massive plume of thick black smoke high into the air above the South Bay.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the blaze began shortly before 9:30 a.m. in the 1100 block of Knox Street.

No injuries were reported, nor were any evacuation orders issued.

Firefighters extinguished the stubborn flames, fueled by insulation in an apparently empty tank, in just under an hour.

The cause of the blaze is unknown.
