Back-to-school priority list should include vision exams
Did your kids spent all summer hunched over smartphones and tablets? Experts say vision checkups should be high on your back-to-school priority list.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- If your kids spent all summer hunched over smartphones and tablets, seeing things on a blackboard might be a big adjustment.

Vision experts say every parent should start the school year with the following questions: Does your child do better in classes where seeing the board isn't as important? If your child passes a school vision screening, does that mean his or her sight is fine? Your answers may mean you need to see an eye specialist.

A recent survey found that 85 percent of parents said their kids spend four hours a day on digital devices. In another survey by the American Optometric Association, 5 percent of parents said they gave smartphones or tablets to kids under 2 years old.
