Every year, the American College of Sports Medicine asks fitness pros what they see as the hottest workouts. More than 4,000 experts nationwide helped weigh in on the top 10.
"HIIT training remains popular which kind of expands across everything we do," said co-owner of Breakthru Fitness, Michelle Dozois.
Dozois continues to see high intensity interval training as the class to take. It takes the number-one spot in the ACSM's annual report as HIIT uses interval cardio and weight training in a variety of concepts to get exercisers sizzling calories. It's usually done in a group setting.
"There are different aspects of group training. Very popular. Lots of people love to workout in groups," said Phil Dozois of Breakthru Fitness.
Phil and his wife Michelle own their gym. Having taught for years, they've both seen classes and fitness tools come and go.
"Barre classes, I didn't see them on the list. Zumba is not as high," said Michelle.
And one thing fitness experts wish was always trending is strength training. Whether it's for muscle mass, bone density or weight loss, it really helps you stay on your game.
"Strength training is like brushing your teeth. You have to do it. Even if you don't, not as many people enjoy it but it's so critical to long-term success," Michelle said.
"If they don't incorporate the strength training into the program, then they see a loss of the lean muscle mass which of course we lose every year after 25," said Phil.
Wearable technology is still huge -- both a benefit for trainers checking progress and people working out on their own.
Yoga, functional fitness and body weight training also getting high marks.
And as baby boomers age, you'll see many gyms looking to take advantage by offering workouts geared to just for them on the roster.
