How Dodger Stadium took center stage in LA's fight against COVID
Dodger Stadium captures the spirit of life in Los Angeles. But when the pandemic hit, it took center stage as one of the nation's largest COVID-19 testing sites and a mass vaccination center.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Dodger Stadium captures the spirit of life in Los Angeles. But when the pandemic hit, it took center stage as one of the nation's largest COVID-19 testing sites and a mass vaccination center.

At the start of lockdown, the international disaster relief group CORE, co-founded by CEO Ann Lee and actor Sean Penn, jumped to the aid of L.A. to help the city respond to its exploding coronavirus crisis.

"We knew when this unfolded that we had to do something," Lee said. "That's the ethos of our organization."

CORE, working with the L.A. Fire Department, needed a large, central location to run its massive operations. That's when Dodger Stadium came in.
