LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Kaiser Permanente and the Los Angeles Police Department held prescription drug take back events Saturday.

There were five collection sites, all of them are Kaiser Permanente medical centers in West Los Angeles, Panorama City, Harbor City, Hollywood and Woodland Hills.

Officials provided the service as a way to help people get rid of unused prescription drugs and avoid potential safety and health hazards.

The Drug Enforcement Agency will take the collected drugs and destroy them.
