HIGHLAND PARK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Eight adults were displaced following a stubborn fire at a two-story wood-frame home in Highland Park Wednesday morning, Los Angeles Fire Department officials said.

The fire was reported in the 100 block of S. Avenue 54 at about 4:30 a.m. Firefighters went into defensive mode after the second floor partially collapsed.

It took a total of 55 firefighters two hours and 20 minutes to knock down the blaze.

A 65-year-old man was transported to a local hospital in fair condition. No other injuries were reported.

The Red Cross is providing assistance to the adults who were displaced by the fire.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
