HIGHLAND, Calif. -- A 72-year-old woman's purse was stolen while she was lying on the street after she was struck by a car in Highland.

Deputies were called to the scene of the crash near Baseline Street and McKinley Avenue on Tuesday.

They found a crowd gathered around the woman, who officials said had minor visible injuries but was confused as to how the collision occurred.

According to deputies, the woman's purse was stolen from the scene as she was lying on the road. The suspect or suspects took cash, credit cards and her identification.

The driver involved in the incident had stopped and provided deputies with all the required information. Investigators later concluded that the woman was unsafely crossing the road when she was struck.
