HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A 33-year-old Los Angeles resident has been charged with attempted murder after police say he beat and tried to sexually assault an 80-year-old woman.

Police say Marcus Peete forced his way into the woman's retirement home in Hollywood in the 1700 block of North Ivar Avenue on June 18.

After attempting to sexually assault her and severely beating her, investigators say the suspect fled the scene. He was taken into custody the next day near Crenshaw and Olympic boulevards.

The victim was treated at an area hospital and was expected to survive.

Peete has also been charged with burglary and assault to commit a felony during a first-degree burglary.
