WHITTIER, Calif. (KABC) -- An ice cream truck driver was beaten and robbed near a high school in Whittier on Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The Norwalk Sheriff's Station said the attack happened at about 4:30 p.m. at Hawes Street and Ruoff Avenue, near California High School in unincorporated Whittier.

Deputies said the driver was hit with a blunt object and was taken to the hospital by helicopter.

Three male suspects ran from the scene, according to officials.

The driver was in stable condition, deputies said.
