Teens battling kidney disease celebrate prom night

GLENDALE, Calif. (KABC) -- Hundreds of teens battling kidney disease got dressed to the nines and experienced a magical night Saturday at the 17th annual Renal Teen Prom in Glendale.

The event aims at giving teens a chance to experience prom in case ongoing treatments get in the way of their actual school dance. For those who made it, it was a night to remember.

"Being around people that actually understand you and know exactly what you go through, it's such a big, it warms our heart," said Alexandra Santoyo, who attended the event.

"When I'm at school I feel like nobody can understand what I went through, so I feel like at home when I'm here at the kidney prom," said Daniel Alvarez, who also attended the event.

The whole event was put together by the Renal Support Network, which provides free services to people affected by chronic kidney disease.
