LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A man who lost his leg in a hit-and-run crash ran Sunday's LA Marathon to raise awareness about a cause near to his heart.

In 2013, a driver in light-colored minivan ran him down while he was riding his bicycle near Griffith Park. His right leg was amputated below his knee.

While lying in his hospital bed, he decided he would someday run a marathon. He accomplished that goal in just two years.

On Sunday, he finished the 26.2-mile course in under 7.5 hours.
