LA PUENTE, Calif. (KABC) -- Multiple people were injured early Sunday morning in a three-vehicle crash that sheared a fire hydrant in La Puente, authorities said.

The collision was reported at 1:19 a.m. on Proctor Avenue, between 5th and 6th avenues, prompting a response from the Los Angeles County Fire Department. A semitrailer, minivan and another vehicle were involved.

It was not immediately clear how many people were hurt in the pileup, which resulted in a geyser and a flooded street when the hydrant was broken off.

The injured patients were transported to a hospital in unknown condition, a fire department spokesperson said.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
