WESTCHESTER, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Fifty underprivileged children in Westchester received an unexpected surprise when they were given brand new bicycles.

Some of the children are from the Venice Boys and Girls Club, but all of them are from families in need. For a lot of the kids, this was their first bike.

Tech company Laird Technologies made the children's dreams come true as part of a global management conference that was held in the city.

"This event allowed us to not only work as a team, but give back to the community. And our philanthropic outreach is all about youth, it's all about people," said Carolyn Koenig, chief human resources officer at Laird Technologies.

The engineers put the bikes together and even tested them out to make sure they were ready for the road.

In addition to the new bicycles, each child also received a helmet and lock.

"I want to say thank you whoever made these for us. This is, like, a big miracle. I wasn't expecting all of this," Frida Hernandez, 9, said.
