STUDIO CITY, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An apparently false report of an attempted kidnapping Tuesday afternoon prompted the lockdown of a Studio City elementary school and a search, authorities said.

The alleged incident was reported about 2:40 p.m. near Carpenter Community Charter School, in the 2900 block of Carpenter Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officers responded to the area and initially released a description of a man armed with a knife who was being sought. Police later said they believed there was no kidnapping attempt but were continuing to speak with the girl who made the report.

"All students who are on campus have been relocated to the auditorium, and I want to ask all parents to pick up those students at our auditorium on Carpenter Ave," principal Joe Martinez said in a message sent to parents. "Everyone is fine. We have LAPD with our students."
