LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Two teenage boys have been awarded $3 million each by a Los Angeles Superior Court jury after they were sexually abused by their elementary school teacher.

The Los Angeles Unified School District earlier admitted liability for the actions of former Telfair Elementary School third-grade teacher Paul Chapel.

Chapel, now 54, is serving a 25-year sentence after pleading no contest in 2012 to molesting 13 boys over four-and-a-half years.

It took the jury less than a day to reach its verdict for compensation. The trial dealt only with the amount of damages the boys, now ages 14 and 13, should receive.

The molestations of the two plaintiffs happened between 2009 and 2011.

The district reached a $5 million settlement with another group of former Telfair students in June of 2014.
