LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- It was an emotional day at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank on Thursday as athletes from around the world competed in horseback riding.

Team Ireland's Dearbhail Savage traveled to Los Angeles with more than a dozen family members, who came to watch her take center stage.

The excitement continued to grow as moments later Dearbhail learned that she had won a gold medal.

It was also a great showing for Team USA, as teammate Kyle Dutiel will be bringing home a gold medal to his home state Mississippi.

Another Team USA member, Amanda Swazey from Pennsylvania, won a silver medal. But the highlight of her World Games experience happened on opening night when she met First Lady Michelle Obama.

The closing ceremonies for the games are set for Sunday. To find out more information about the Special Olympics World Games, visit abc7.com/specialolympics.
