1 killed in Lancaster deputy-involved shooting; 2nd suspect sought
LANCASTER, Calif. (KABC) -- A suspect was killed in a deputy-involved shooting after brandishing an assault pistol in Lancaster Friday night. A search continues for a second suspect.
Around 11:30 p.m., gang unit detectives were patrolling in the 3100 block of West Avenue K-4. The deputies stopped their patrol car to speak with the suspect and his friend.
As deputies approached the suspect, described as a Hispanic man, he took out a semi-automatic assault pistol from under his jacket, which resulted in a deputy-involved shooting.
The suspect was struck in the torso and pronounced dead at the scene. His friend ran away from the area through a dirt field and out of view, authorities said.
The suspect's handgun was recovered at the scene next to his body.
No deputies were injured in the shooting.
The incident is being investigated. Authorities set up a perimeter in the area to search for the second suspect.
