COMPTON, Calif. -- Rap star Master P greeted people enjoying a Thanksgiving meal in Compton.

The rapper donated money to help pay for the holiday feast. He has been helping people in the community for many years.

"I grew up in the projects in New Orleans and I said let's not forget about community. Let's not forget about the people," he said.

"We've been doing this for over 19 years. It's just a blessing."

Master P teamed up with city of Compton Mayor Aja Brown and rapper YG for the fourth annual community dinner.

"To have his presence here and people can feel the love. To show up here, there's nothing like giving your time. He definitely put his pocketbook out there," Brown said.

Dozens of volunteers served up plates loaded with turkey, ham and lots of tasty side dishes.

"It means a lot to the community whatever race, creed or color we're all as one," said attendee Carl Green.

Master P brought along his son and daughter to help them understand the importance of giving back to the community.

"We have a big old family and if our life were a little different this could be us in the same line too," Master P said.

People enjoying the meal expressed their gratitude.

"That's a real good guy. He comes here every year and do this. That's something out of his heart and I thank God for that. Dinner was good, I'm full!" said resident Arthur Brown.
