Montebello crash causes power outage
Montebello residents were advised to stay inside after a traffic accident brought down live electrical wires in the area of Poplar and Beverly.

MONTEBELLO, Calif. (KABC) -- Over 2,000 Southern California Edison customers were without power in Montebello after a minivan crashed into a power pole near Poplar Avenue and Beverly Boulevard.

The single-vehicle accident was reported just after 7 p.m. The minivan took down an electrical transformer and live wires.

SoCal Edison said 2,138 customers were affected by the outage. Several traffic signals were out as well.

Live wires at on top of the car, but the two people inside were able to exit safely.

Because of live electrical wires down in the area, police advised residents to stay inside their homes.

An Edison crew was called to the scene to make repairs that were expected to take several hours to complete, police said.

At 10:17 p.m. SoCal Edison officials said most residents should have their power restored by 11 p.m.
