MONTEBELLO, Calif. (KABC) -- Two people were detained after an elaborate indoor marijuana farm was discovered in a building located next door to a school in Montebello Tuesday.

The discovery was made in the 3300 block of W. Beverly Boulevard around 5 p.m. Only an alley separates the property from Eastmont Intermediate School, police said.

Investigators with the Montebello Police Department served a search warrant at the property during after-school hours and seized approximately 700 marijuana plants. The drugs have an estimated street value of $300,000, police said.

The facility was outfitted with artificial lighting, fans, temperature controls, an odor control system, and soil and nutrients for the plants.

The investigation is ongoing.
