Do you love your dog? Do you show it? How do dog-lovers in your state compare to the rest of the country?

Big Heart Pet Brands surveyed 3,000 "dog parents" to find out.

The top three states that are most loving toward their pets, the survey determined, are California, New York and Washington.

The survey was conducted to celebrate Valentine's Day. To determine which states would have the honor of being the dog-loving-est, the survey asked dog owners about how often they show love to their dogs. They focused on seven "loving behaviors," including doggy kisses and cuddle time.

Here are the top ten most puppy-loving states, according to the survey:

10. Arizona

9. Ohio

8. Missouri

7. Texas

6. Massachusetts

5. Florida

4. Tennessee

3. Washington

2. New York

1. California

Most dog owners show their dog love by buying them special treats, the survey found, though saying "I love you" and telling friends why they love their dogs on social media were popular behaviors, too.

The survey also found that one fifth of all Americans (including 39% of unmarried women) would rather spend time with their dog on Valentine's Day than go on a date with a human.

Having a dog could get you a date, too. More than half of survey users said behaviors associated with owning a dog, such as treating it like part of the family, make you more attractive to potential dates. This belief was held for both genders in all behaviors with three exceptions. Men did not find buying gifts for dog to be attractive, while both genders did not find "modifies schedule to be with their dog" to be an attractive quality.

Perhaps least surprising of the findings are that most dog lovers believe their pet makes them more joyful, patient and loving.
