Beauty of Mother Nature gets the IMAX treatment in documentary 'National Parks Adventure'

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- In the United States, there are more than 400 national park sites. Last year, they got almost 293 million visitors.

Our stunning national park sites make up some 84 million acres -- that's about the size of Germany!

At the California Science Center, the giant IMAX screen is showing the stunning beauty of many of these majestic places in the documentary, "National Parks Adventure." Five film crews spent more than nine months visiting 30+ parks and historic sites to make this 43-minute movie.

"It was a wonderful shoot because we had these magnificent locations and we were able to try to take advantage of them with our big cameras," said filmmaker Greg MacGillivray. "You end up seeing them in the film on the gigantic IMAX screen. And it's an experience you'll never be able to have on your own."

"Natural Parks Adventure" takes us into caves covered in ice, shows us some unbelievable colors in nature, and wildlife, including prairie dogs, and young brown bears in Alaska trying to figure out how to catch salmon. Some shoots can be dangerous, but these filmmakers focus on caution.

"Everything we did in the film was definitely practiced beforehand," said filmmaker Max Lowe. "We made sure we weren't going to fall off a cliff."
