NEWHALL, SANTA CLARITA (KABC) -- A small brush fire shut down the northbound side of the 5 Freeway near the 14 Freeway interchange in Newhall for a short time on Tuesday.

The more than 7-acre brush fire started around 3:40 p.m. along the shoulder of the 5 Freeway, south of Calgrove Boulevard.

Firefighters worked to put out the blaze amid low winds and gloomy conditions and fully contained it by 5:30 p.m.

Only one lane of the northbound 5 Freeway at Calgrove Boulevard remained closed as firefighters put out hot spots.
