1 dead, 2 gravely wounded in series of possible gang shootings in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Authorities were on high alert Saturday as a series of shootings suspected to be between rival gangs has left one person dead and two others in grave condition.

The first shooting happened around 4:30 a.m. near 88th and Hoover streets. A 25-year-old man, who was sitting in his car, was struck by gunfire. His girlfriend drove him to Gardena Hospital, where he died of his injuries.

The second and third shootings happened at 90th Street and Vermont Avenue and Figueroa and 95th streets, respectively. Authorities did not say if anyone was struck by gunfire in these shootings.

The fourth shooting happened at 90th and Hoover streets. One person was struck by gunfire and left in the middle of the intersection. He was taken to a nearby hospital in grave condition.

The last shooting took place around 9:40 a.m., about five hours from the first one, near 111th Street and Broadway. A 22-year-old man was shot three times, including in the head, while walking to a relative's home. He was also listed in grave condition.

Authorities said neither man in grave condition is expected to survive.

No further information on the shootings, including descriptions of the suspects, were released. It was unclear if all the shootings were related.

Southeast Division Los Angeles police were on high alert because of the possibility of retaliation from either suspected gang.
