Suspected gunman arrested in fatal Venice boardwalk shooting

A suspected gunman was arrested for murder Monday in connection to the death of a transient who was fatally shot on the Venice Beach boardwalk, just steps outside of the Cadillac Hotel, in August.

Francisco Guzman, 28, was taken into custody in South Los Angeles shortly before 10 a.m by the FBI-LAPD Fugitive Task Force. He was charged, along with 54-year-old Sris Sinnathamby, in the killing of Jascent-Jamal Lee Warren.

Warren was gunned down near Rose Avenue and Ocean Front Walk shortly after 2 a.m. on Aug. 30. A second man was shot in the leg.

Guzman pleaded not guilty Wednesday to one count each of murder, attempted murder and possession of a firearm with two prior convictions.

Sinnathamby was charged with one count each of murder and attempted murder.

Witnesses among a group of homeless campers told investigators that the clash started with an argument and that Sinnathamby, who owns the Cadillac Hotel, directed Guzman to shoot Warren.

Both suspects are due back in court on Oct. 14.
