SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A driver considered armed and dangerous led Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies on a slow-speed chase Thursday evening.

The suspect, who was wanted for an assault with a deadly weapon, was in a newer black Dodge Charger with tinted windows as the chase started near Los Angeles International Airport.

The driver fled on freeways, including the northbound 405 and 110 freeways, and led dozens of cruisers down busy side streets throughout South Los Angeles.

At one point, the vehicle came to a stop and a woman exited. The car immediately took off after she got out and the pursuit continued.

The driver eventually stopped under the 110 Freeway bridge on West Gage Avenue at about 9:30 p.m.

The suspect surrendered to officers and was taken into custody.
