Elderly woman dies after hit-run in San Bernardino

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed an elderly woman in San Bernardino Thursday night.

Maria Lazarraga, 78, was walking in a crosswalk on 9th and L streets at about 5:30 p.m. when she was struck, according to the San Bernardino Police Department.

The driver took off after the crash and was last seen heading eastbound on 9th Street. Video of the suspect was obtained from a business near the intersection.

The driver's vehicle is described as newer white sedan with tinted windows.

Anyone with information on the suspect or the incident is urged to call Detective Devin Peck at 909-384-5664.

San Bernardino police said the incident is the 10th fatal crash in the month of October and the 37th traffic fatality of the year.

Authorities are asking motorists to pay attention to the roadway and refrain from distractions while driving.
