PALMDALE, Calif. (KABC) -- Three people riding two motorcycles were killed in a crash involving an SUV in Palmdale.

The crash occurred around 10:17 p.m. at the intersection of 10th Street West and Avenue N-8.

Sheriff's deputies say one motorcycle with two people aboard, a man and a woman, smashed into a Toyota SUV. The impact sent the motorcycle into the second motorcycle with a solo rider.

All three people on the two motorcycles died as a result of massive head trauma from the crash, authorities said. Two were pronounced dead at the scene, and one was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

There were three people, all women, in the Toyota. They were not hurt. Deputies say alcohol was not a factor with those in the SUV.

Tenth Street West between Avenue N-4 and Avenue O, and Avenue N-8 between the 14 Freeway and 11th Street West were closed for the investigation.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
