LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A suspect was detained by Los Angeles International Airport Police after employees caught him in the airfield operations area on Friday.

Rob Pedregon, a spokesperson for LAX police, said the 30-year-old man was spotted by a Southwest Airlines employee walking along a service road within the area, which is a restricted ground not open to the public.

Airport police soon responded and detained the suspect while an investigation was conducted.

He was later taken into custody for a 72-hour psychological evaluation.

No further information was available.
