RIVERSIDE, Calif. (KABC) -- A 48-year-old Jurupa Valley man was arrested in connection to a hit-and-run crash in Highgrove that seriously injured a 7-year-old girl.

Brendan Vinson was arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for felony hit-and-run on Wednesday, the California Highway Patrol said.

Vinson is believed to be the driver of the 1999 Chevrolet utility truck involved in Friday's crash.

The victim, Deasha Butts, suffered a broken pelvis and now has scars over 35 percent of her body.

Butts, who turned 7 years old on Tuesday and had to spend her birthday in the hospital, faces a long recovery.

The CHP said investigative work by police as well as vital tips provided by the public helped track down Vinson.
