SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- Police were searching for a robbery suspect who slipped out of one of his handcuffs and escaped out of a patrol car in San Bernardino, police said.

San Bernardino police were searching for 18-year-old Eddie Betancourt near the area of 4th and E streets Monday night.

Authorities said he was arrested for suspicion of robbery and placed in a patrol car. While inside, police said he slipped out of one of his handcuffs, reached outside the window to open the door and fled.

Authorities believe the suspect, described as being 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 140 pounds, still has the handcuffs on one hand.

Anyone with information on Betancourt's whereabouts was asked to contact the San Bernardino Police Department.
