Man arrested after stabbing wife, infant in South Gate

SOUTH GATE, Calif. (KABC) -- A man was taken into custody Sunday night after allegedly stabbing his wife and infant daughter in South Gate, police said.

The incident was reported around 7 p.m. in the 5200 block of Pendleton Avenue.

Sheriff's deputies said the suspect produced a knife and stabbed his wife and their 6-month-old infant following a verbal argument with the female victim.

The woman was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Her name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The child was listed in stable condition and is expected to survive, police said.

The suspect was detained a short time later a few blocks from the scene. He was arrested and booked for murder, sheriff's deputies said.
