Uncle suspected of killing Arcadia nephews taken into LASD custody

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A Chinese man suspected of murdering his two teenage nephews has been brought back to the U.S. and placed into the custody of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Friday afternoon to face arraignment.

Deyun Shi, 44, was arrested in Hong Kong on Jan. 24, only a few days after his 15 and 16-year-old nephews died. His nephews - William and Anthony Lin - had been found dead in an Arcadia home on Jan. 22.

The parents of the victims found their sons' bodies on separate levels of the house. Authorities said the teens appeared to have suffered blunt force trauma.

The pair had gone to check on their aunt in the La Canada area after her husband Shi allegedly assaulted her with a wood splitting tool. The teens returned home later that day and went to bed, their parents said.

While the parents of the victims were at the hospital to also check on the suspect's wife, officials said Shi allegedly drove to the brothers' home, forced entry and fatally beat them with the same tool.

Shi, who is a Chinese national in the United States on a business visa, then fled the scene, abandoned his vehicle at a Los Angeles airport parking structure and took a flight bound directly for Hong Kong.

With communication and joint efforts between Hong Kong and U.S. officials, Shi was located and detained in Hong Kong.

After his arrest, Shi agreed to be extradited back to the U.S.

The suspect was returned by L.A. County sheriff's officials on Friday and booked for murder without bail. He was expected to be arraigned on Monday.

Sheriff's officials said this is the first time in recent memory a suspect has been brought back from Hong Kong by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
