Driver dies after vehicle slams into light pole, explodes in Lake Balboa

LAKE BALBOA, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A driver is dead after his vehicle crashed into a light pole and burst into flames in Lake Balboa early Sunday.

Firefighters responded to the scene near Burbank and Balboa boulevards around 2:30 a.m. and found the vehicle engulfed in the fire.

Investigators said the car slammed into a light pole and then exploded.

The unidentified driver was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead. No other person was in the car.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
