Man fatally shot in head in Ventura parking lot

VENTURA, Calif. (KABC) -- A man was found fatally shot in his head inside a vehicle in Ventura early Monday morning, according to authorities.

Ventura police said they responded to a call in a parking lot located in the 2300 block of Alameda Avenue at about 1:50 a.m.

A woman told authorities she found her husband with a gunshot wound inside a vehicle.

When officers arrived they found the 61-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his head.

He was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said the man had left a nearby hotel with a friend to do business.

The friend of the victim found the man with the gunshot wound, according to police. Authorities said the friend called the victim's wife, who then called police.

Officers said they were waiting for a search warrant to investigate at the nearby hotel.
