Suspect killed in deputy-involved shooting at East Los Angeles home

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A suspect died in a deputy-involved shooting at an East Los Angeles home after authorities said he pointed a shotgun at deputies early Saturday morning.

Deputies received a call regarding someone being shot at a home in the 900 block of La Verne Avenue. When deputies arrived, they entered the home and encountered the suspect armed with a shotgun.

Authorities said a deputy-involved shooting occurred, and the two deputies shot the suspect. The person was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The two deputies involved were not hurt, and the shotgun was recovered at the scene. The suspect's identity was not released pending notification of next of kin.

It was unclear if anyone was actually shot at the home based on the initial 911 call, authorities said. The investigation was ongoing.
