ANAHEIM, Calif. (KABC) -- A 49-year-old man was found fatally stabbed at a bus stop in Anaheim early Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Officers made the grim discovery about 2:15 a.m. when they responded to a report of a male on the ground covered in blood in the 1200 block of Magnolia Avenue, said Sgt. Daron Wyatt, spokesman for the Anaheim Police Department. The victim was suffering from at least one stab wound.

Officers and paramedics performed CPR on the man, a transient who known to frequent the area, according to the sergeant. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His name was not immediately released, pending notification of family.

Homicide detectives were summoned to the location, where they remained for hours while examining evidence and searching for possible witnesses.

No suspect information was available, investigators said, and the motive for the killing was unknown.

Magnolia Avenue was closed in both directions between Ball Road and Lola Avenue. The street was reopened shortly before noon.
