VANUATU (KABC) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.8 struck off the waters of Vanuatu, an island nation in the South Pacific Ocean, on Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake was recorded at around 111 miles deep and around 35 miles northeast of the city of Port-Olry in Vanuatu, according to the USGS.

There were no immediate reports of a tsunami warning or any damage.
