SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Two Los Angeles police officers and two suspects were hospitalized after their vehicles collided at the end of a short chase in South Los Angeles Wednesday.

The violent collision occurred near the intersection of Main and 98th streets in the Century Palms neighborhood at about 1:10 a.m.

LAPD Capt. Lee Sands says officers began pursuing the vehicle near Broadway and Century Boulevard because they suspected it was connected to a shooting which occurred near 90th Street and Wadsworth Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.

"We possibly believe that maybe based upon our intel that this vehicle might have been involved. That's still not confirmed at this time. That's just an assumption on our part based upon the makeup of the vehicle and the vehicle used at the shooting that occurred earlier this afternoon," Sands said.

The patrol car sustained extensive front-end damage and the other vehicle struck a wall and became wedged against a tree.

One officer suffered a fractured wrist and the second officer complained of injuries, Sands said.

The occupants of the pursued vehicle, a man and a woman, were also hospitalized. The conditions of the suspects were not immediately known.
