Chargers eliminated from playoff contention despite win
The Chargers defeated the Raiders, 30-10, Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017, at StubHub Center in a New Year's Eve game that was their last of the regular season.

CARSON, Calif. (KABC) -- The Chargers defeated the Raiders, 30-10, Sunday afternoon at StubHub Center in a New Year's Eve game that turned out to be their last of the season.

The Bolts were attempting to keep their playoff hopes alive but were eliminated from postseason contention when a scenario that included a Titans victory over the Jaguars came to fruition.

The Titans beat the Jags 15-10 in Tennessee.

Had the Chargers secured a playoff berth, it would have been their first since the 2008 season and followed an 0-4 start. The team went on to win six of its final seven games in its relocation season.

In Carson on Sunday, Philip Rivers passed for 387 yards and three touchdowns. Keenan Allen scored on a 27-yard fumble recovery and a 6-yard TD catch for the Bolts.

The Raiders' loss came despite a show of support by droves of fans clad in silver and black, whose team has not played regularly in Southern California in more than two decades.

The Chargers swept their season series with their fiercest rivals and earned their fifth straight win at StubHub Center despite loud cheering from the Oakland faithful.
