It was a captivating speech that brought Hollywood A-listers to their feet. Oprah Winfrey's acceptance of a lifetime achievement award at the Golden Globes is now fueling talk that she could run for president.

"For too long women have not been heard or believed if they dared to speak the truth to the power of those men. But their time is up, their time is up," Winfrey said in her speech addressing the sexual misconduct scandal rocking Hollywood.

While Winfrey herself has not publicly expressed an interest in running, her long-time partner Stedman Graham told the Los Angeles Times: "It's up to the people. She would absolutely do it."

And long before he was president, Donald Trump told Larry King he would pick Oprah for vice president.

"She's really a great woman, she is a terrific woman," Trump said in 1999. "She is somebody who's very special."

In 2016, Jimmy Kimmel asked Winfrey about a run for president. She said she wouldn't do it, but then after seeing Trump run, she felt she would be just as qualified.

"It's the one thing I know for sure, sure sure is I would never run for office," she told Kimmel. "But I would say that for many years. I used to think, until this election year, I thought why do people say that? I have no qualifications to run. (Now) I'm feeling pretty qualified."

Whether it makes sense politically for her to run remains open to debate.

"There's this inclination to look at Oprah Winfrey and say she just gave this amazing, speech she's such a powerful figure, she's been successful in the business world," said Loyola law professor Jessica Levinson. "If the Republicans can elect Trump, why can't we elect Oprah Winfrey. But the question needs to be asked: is this the mold of president we really want?"
