3 stabbed at children's baseball game in Ventura

VENTURA, Calif. (KABC) -- Three people were stabbed during a children's baseball game in Ventura Sunday afternoon.

The victims were stabbed around 4 p.m. in the 2000 block of Cameron Street, near De Anza Middle School. Authorities said the stabbing happened at a little league baseball game near the diamond, but not on the field.

Authorities received several 911 calls of a physical fight that broke out at the game, located at Harry A. Lyon Park. Emergency services personnel responded to the call and found two stabbing victims.

The two victims were a 38-year-old father, who suffered from serious multiple stab wounds, and his 19-year-old son, who suffered from multiple life-threatening stab wounds. Both men's injuries were in the upper torso area.

A third victim, a 21-year-old man, was found a short distance away near the middle school. He was found suffering from multiple life-threatening stab wounds. All three men were taken to the Ventura County Medical Center in serious to critical condition.

The 19-year-old underwent surgery for a collapsed lung, according to family members. His father was expected to be released from the hospital early Monday morning.

Authorities detained an 18-year-old man who was located several blocks away from the incident. He was arrested for possible involvement in the stabbing. The 21-year-old man found stabbed was also identified as a possible suspect, authorities said.

The names of the victims and suspects were not released due to the serious nature of the crime, according to police.

It is unclear if the stabbing was gang related, and authorities said the stabbing had nothing to do with the baseball game. The investigation is ongoing.
