LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A 9-year-old boy is recovering after he was shot while he was asleep in his Los Angeles apartment.

The shooting happened near 105th and Avalon streets at 10:30 p.m. Monday, fire officials said.

Police said the boy was asleep at home when a shooting happened outside. One of the bullets went through the apartment building, and the boy was shot in the buttocks, according to LAPD.

The boy was transported to a local hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition.

Authorities are still searching for a suspect and are looking for possible surveillance video to help their investigation.

Police had no immediate information on a motive in the shooting, but investigators believe the apartment was targeted.

No one else was injured in the shooting.

Neighbors said they were concerned for their own safety in the wake of the shooting. "It's sad, like innocent kids are getting hit every day now. It's sad," one resident said.
