Long Beach increasing parking in Alamitos Beach

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- The daily hunt for parking in the Alamitos Beach neighborhood of Long Beach may become easier.

The city announced 121 parking spaces have been added, much to the relief of residents on densely populated blocks.

The city's Department of Public Works tried an innovative way to add the spaces: They increased the angle of the stripes on already existing spaces.

Doing this created 121 new spaces on First and Second streets without reducing the number of traffic lanes.
