LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has recovered a lost bean bag shotgun.

Construction workers found the shotgun, stored inside a black canvas bag, on the side of the 405 Freeway near the Skirball Center Drive off-ramp around 7:45 a.m. Saturday.

The workers thought the bag contained tools, but then discovered the shotgun and turned it over to law enforcement officials Tuesday night. The shotgun, case and four bean bag rounds were intact, and the weapon didn't appear to be damaged.

Two deputies had put the non-lethal weapon into the trunk of a patrol car in Agoura Hills over the weekend. They realized it was missing after a passerby flagged them down and told them their trunk was open.

An investigation into the incident continues.
