SIMI VALLEY, Calif. (KABC) -- Brass thieves stole at least three fire hydrants right from their bases in Simi Valley earlier this month, police said.

The thefts were reported in the 600 block of Cochran Street on Jan. 3 and Jan. 4.

The suspects allegedly shut the hydrants' supply of water off at the main valve, and then used a vehicle to shear the hydrants off of their bases.

Investigators say the hydrants are made of large amounts of valuable brass.

The Simi Valley Police Department is working with the Ventura County Fire Department to prevent any further hydrant thefts.

Anyone with any information or who notices a missing hydrant was urged to call (805) 389-9710 or (805) 583-6950.
