Temple City sheriff's deputies and citizens worked together to corral a loose alpaca in Duarte Saturday afternoon.

The alpaca, named Sha Sha, escaped from the Masjid Qurtabah Mosque in the 1100 block of Huntington Drive around 4:30 p.m.

Traffic came to a halt as Sha Sha pranced around. Eyewitnesses described it as a comedy of errors as people jumped out of their cars in the rain and tried to help authorities catch her.

Eunice Figueras Borges described the incident as "a little silly and a little surreal. You take two seconds to figure out, did I just see a llama, alpaca, jumping in front of my car? And that's when I took my iPhone and had to take a picture of it because I thought it was just a little on the silly side of life."

The alpaca, which was in town for the weekend as a kid's attraction, was loose for about a total of 10 minutes, deputies said.
