Mule put down after being hit by car on PCH in Malibu

A mule that was struck by a car on the Pacific Coast Highway near Heathercliff Road in Malibu is being assessed by a veterinarian and its owner on Monday, Jan. 19, 2015.

A car struck and injured a mule on the Pacific Coast Highway near Heathercliff Road in Malibu Monday morning.

Around 6:50 a.m., the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to a call involved a motorist who struck a mule that had wandered onto the road. The driver was not injured in the accident.

The mule was injured and the owner, who was nearby, decided to have a veterinarian put the animal down, according to authorities.

The eastbound lane on Heathercliff Road was blocked until 10 a.m.
